The Peacocks ended the Newman Classic on a high note, defeating the Newman Jets 64-43 in the Third-place matchup.
After an evenly matched first quarter, the Peacocks dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Jets 19-12. Entering the quarter down by one, UIU scored 14 straight points, highlighted by junior

Brooke Evenson each added two points in the quarter on free throws.
Tornstrom caught fire to start the second half, making two three pointers and a mid-range jumper to extend the Peacocks lead to 12. Evenson added a layup and three pointer of her own later in the quarter, which saw the Peacocks entering the fourth quarter up 46-36. Amelia Valentino made the final layup of the game, securing the Peacock victory by a score of 64-43.
Tornstrom led the Peacocks in scoring with 18 points on 5-10 shooting while going 3-6 from three-point range and 5-6 from the line. Huberty was right behind her with 15 points on 6-13 shooting while going 1-2 from three. Evenson led all Peacocks in minutes with 35, and put together UIU's first double-double of the season with 12 points on 3-9 shooting, while bringing in ten rebounds. Junior
Helen Staley added seven points on 3-5 shooting and led the Peacocks in assists once again with five, while recording six rebounds. Brenning and senior
Cassidy Pagel both finished with four points while making both of their free throw attempts and Valentino and senior
Kayla Bohr added two points each.
The Peacocks have improved to 2-1 and will be back home for their first GLVC matchup of the season next weekend. UIU takes on Indianapolis on Saturday, Nov. 25 at home at 1 p.m. and will hit the road shortly afterwards for their matchup against UMSL on Monday, Nov. 27 at 5:30 p.m.
