The Peacocks have suffered their first loss of the season, by a score of 69-60 against the Oklahoma Christian Eagles in the First Round of the Newman Classic.

Kayla Bohr scored seven straight points to start the game for the Peacocks, making two layups and swishing a three in the first two minutes of action. Graduate
Katie Tornstrom added another three-pointer which quickly gave the Peacocks an early 10-3 lead. Junior
Helen Staley assisted on four of UIU's first six baskets in the first quarter, which ended with the Peacocks having an 18-15 lead. Tornstrom and graduate
Brooke Evenson scored all of Upper Iowa's points in the second quarter, with Tornstrom scoring nine and Evenson scoring five. Oklahoma Christian had a very solid second half, where they overcame their early deficit and took a 36-34 lead over the Peacocks going into the locker room. Tornstrom led the scoring in the first half with 14 while Evenson added nine points and Bohr finished the half with seven.
The third quarter was highlighted by Tornstrom hitting an early three on Staley's sixth assist of the game before Bohr and Huberty would later make and-one layups. The Peacocks gave up a late three with five seconds remaining, resulting in them entering the fourth quarter down 57-49. UIU scored the first two three in the fourth quarter on a layup by Staley and mid-range and three-point jumper by Tornstrom, reducing the Eagles lead to one. The early fourth quarter comeback would ultimately fall short as the Peacocks would only score four points in the final five minutes, resulting in a 69-60 loss.
Tornstrom led all scorers for the second game in a row, scoring 24 points on 10-19 shooting and 4-10 from the three-point line. Evenson scored 12 on 5-8 shooting and more than doubled anyone else on the team in rebounds, finishing with nine. Bohr was the final Peacock to score in double figures, scoring 10 points while shooting 4-11 and 1-3 from three. Staley finished with two points while shooting 1-4, but she recorded over half of Upper Iowa's assists with eight, while not committing a single turnover. Junior
Mia Huberty finished with four points, one rebound and two assists and senior
Alaina Brenning made her only three-point attempt of the game, recording three points, two rebounds and one assist.
The Peacocks will play tomorrow in the third-place match of the Newman Classic, where they take on the hosts, Newman University. The time for the match is still yet to be determined.
