Peacocks Close 2023 Campaign With Loss to Tritons in GLVC Championships

The Upper Iowa volleyball program closed out their season at the GLVC Championship in Williamsville, Ill. as they fell to the No. 1 seeded Missouri-St. Louis 3-0. This was the Peacocks' first-ever appearance in the GLVC postseason tournament after completing their debut season with the league. They finished the year with an 11-17 overall record and 6-7 mark in conference play.

The Tritons won three straight sets with scores of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-17. They were dominant at the net as they recorded 50 kills with a hitting percentage of .375. The Peacocks put down 31 kills (.183).

Upper Iowa held an 8-7 lead in set one after going on a 6-1 run, but it was relinquished as the Tritons executed their own 5-1 run to take control 18-14, fueled by three kills from Lexie Rang. After a kill from both Lydia Imbrogno and Martha Pace to cut the deficit to 22-18, UMSL rallied off three-straight points to end the set, including a big block at the end to cap things off.

Missouri-St. Louis held a 19-13 advantage in set two and kept their momentum rolling as they executed seven straight points to win the frame.

Freshman Kailey Porter stepped onto the court in the third set for a change of scenery. She recorded a kill in the first point of the game and tallied two service aces when it was her turn to serve to give the Peacocks a 4-3 lead. The Tritons strung together a 4-0 run for a 13-8 lead that they kept building on as they glided to the 25-17 victory to move onto the next round of the conference tournament.

Zoe Semelroth led the team with nine kills and Lydia Imbrogno followed close behind with seven. Kaci Beesecker gathered 15 digs and Madelyn Rettler contributed nine. Nicole Pozorski finished with 25 assists this afternoon.
