Upper Iowa's football season came to a close this afternoon after their 28-38 loss to the Quincy Hawks. The Peacocks finished the season with a 3-8 record, while going 1-6 in GLVC play.
The Peacocks' special teams was the highlight of the first half. Punter
Traegen Kramer attempted three punts in the half, two of which were downed within the opponent's ten-yard line, and he finished the first half with an average of 51 yards per punt. The Peacocks scored their first points of the game as
Tade Parsons blocked a punt by the Hawks three minutes into the second quarter. Parsons then recovered his block at the two-yard line and dove into the endzone.
The Hawks would reply with seventeen unanswered points to end the half as JQ Brown scored a two-yard touchdown before teammate Teon Dollard followed it up with a seven-yard touchdown run of his own. Michael Owens scored the only field goal of the game on a 25-yard field goal with 2:29 remaining in the second half.
Quincy added to their 17-7 lead to start the second half as quarterback C.J. Simms scored a five-yard rushing touchdown. He built on this momentum by throwing a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Lawrence, increasing their lead to 31-7.
Upper Iowa scored their first offensive touchdown with three and a half minutes remaining in the third on a 15-yard pass from
Darryl Overstreet Jr. to
Isaiah Gray, who caught the pass in the end zone. After giving up a 45-yard touchdown run, UIU would answer back with another passing touchdown.
Mante Morrow made a sensational catch on a lob pass over Quincy's defense at around midfield, and took it to the house for a touchdown.
The Peacocks final drive of the game was highlighted by
Eddie Burgess making a one-handed catch on the 25-yard line, which gave the Peacocks a first down. Burgess caught another pass just a few plays later, where he scored the final touchdown of the game.
Overstreet finished the game completing 20 out of 42 passes for 283 yards and three touchdowns. Camacho led the Peacocks with seven receptions, totaling 44 yards. Burgess added six catches of his own for 75 yards and a touchdown, while Morrow caught five passes for 151 yards and a touchdown.
Aboubacar Barry finished with a game-high eight carries, rushing for 47 yards with an average of 5.8 yards per carry.
Shaquille Roman led the defense with 12 tackles while also adding ½ a sack.
Peyton Bieber recorded 11 tackles, including one tackle for loss in his final game with the Peacocks.
John Butsch finished with nine tackles while Parsons recorded seven.
