Upper Iowa football took on Missouri S&T for the second time this season and fell in a 31-6 decision in Rolla, Mo., granting the Miners their first win of the season (1-5, 1-1 GLVC). The Peacocks dropped to 2-4 (0-2 GLVC) on the year.
The Miners ran for 256 yards, an average of 5.1 yards per rush. Upper Iowa tallied 252 yards of offense in total. S&T only turned the ball over one time, while UIU had three turnovers in the game.
Quarterback Daryl Overstreet Jr. ran the ball into S&T territory in the second quarter, recording Upper Iowa's only touchdown of the night. An 11-yard pass from Overstreet to Burgess, followed by a 24-yard run by
Jayden Mitchell, set UIU up right at the goal-line. Overstreet took it himself off a fake handoff to score 6, but UIU missed the extra point After the failed extra-point attempt, the Peacocks were down by one (7-6) going into halftime.
S&T scored ten points in the third quarter and another 14 in the fourth to give them their 31-6 win.
Eddie Burgess paced the team with six catches for 77 yards.
Jayden Mitchell led the team with 60 yards rushing.
Michael Mulherin registered a team-high of eight tackles, while
Tyler Owen and
Peyton Bieber both finished with seven.
Upper Iowa returns to Harms-Eischeid next weekend as they host McKendree University on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. for their Homecoming game.
