Upper Iowa began their final and most crucial road trip of the season with a 0-0 tie to the Missouri S&T Miners.
The first half saw Upper Iowa attempt five shots while Missouri S&T attempted four. Only one of these nine shots was on target, which just so happened to be the first shot of the game by the Peacocks. Sophomore midfielder
Mateo Rodriguez fired a shot toward the right corner of the goal in the 9
th minute, which was saved by freshman goalkeeper Cavitt Bruhn. UIU would later attempt multiple headers which were both off target. After a pretty uneventful first half, both teams would go into the locker room tied 1-1.
Missouri S&T had the first great scoring chance in the second half, but graduate defender Robert Suellentrop's shot sailed wide right. Upper Iowa would respond with a shot on goal in the 75
th minute by senior forward
Frider Blunck, whose shot right down the middle was saved. The Peacocks put together another great offensive possession in the 80
th minute and were awarded a corner kick which they were unable to capitalize on. Sophomore midfielder
Wilmer Canales made an incredible steal, setting himself up on a one-on-one fastbreak with the goalie. His shot on goal was deflected away on a diving save by the goalie, who denied the Peacocks on the best opportunity they had all game. The Miners would respond with a header on goal, which was easily saved by senior keeper
Archie Watts in the 88
th minute. The Peacocks final chance of the game came with less than a minute remaining when they were awarded a free kick from outside the box. They lobbed a pass on goal which was headed over the goal by junior defender
Daniel Pranger, ending the game in a 0-0 tie.
While the Peacocks were unable to come away with the victory, their season is still alive with a tie. Both Drury and Quincy lost today, meaning the Peacocks are currently tied for 8
th place.
Upper Iowa will play in their final regular season game of the season on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 2:30 p.m. against Maryville. There are two different outcomes that can lead to the Peacocks clinching a spot in the GLVC Tournament.
With a tie the Peacocks will clinch the #8 seed if:
- Drury loses on the road to McKendree
- Quincy loses or ties on the road to Lewis
With a win the Peacocks will clinch the #7 or #8 seed if:
- Drury loses or ties on the road to McKendree
