Peacocks Look to Defend Home Turf Against Bearcats of McKendree

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK FOOTBALL… Upper Iowa returns to Harms-Eischeid this weekend as they host McKendree University on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. for their homecoming game.  The Peacocks come into this weekend with a 2-4 (0-2 GLVC) record, while the Bearcats are 0-5 (0-2 GLVC).

RECAP OF LAST WEEKEND… Upper Iowa football took on Missouri S&T for the second time last weekend and fell in a 31-6 decision in Rolla, Mo., granting the Miners their first win of the season. The Miners ran for 256 yards, averaging 5.1 yards per rush. Upper Iowa tallied only 252 yards of offense in total. S&T only turned the ball over one time, while UIU had three turnovers in the game. 
 
Quarterback Daryl Overstreet Jr. ran the ball into S&T territory in the second quarter, recording Upper Iowa's only touchdown of the night. Eddie Burgess paced the team with six catches for 77 yards. Jayden Mitchell led the team with 60 yards rushing. Michael Mulherin registered a team-high of eight tackles, while Tyler Owen and Peyton Bieber both finished with seven. 
 
EARLY STANDINGS… As the GLVC teams enter their third week of conference play, Truman State and Indianapolis sit atop of the standings with 2-0 marks in the GLVC. Both teams have a clean sheet as the Bulldogs have a 6-0 overall record and the Greyhounds are 5-0 on the season. Quincy, William Jewell, Southwest Baptist and Missouri S&T are all 1-1 in conference play. Upper Iowa and McKendree round out the group with an 0-2 mark in the GLVC. 
 
SCOUTING MCKENDREE… The Bearcats are 0-5 (0-2 GLVC) coming into this weekend, recently falling to Truman State (56-24) and Southwest Baptist (24-17) in their last two contests. 
 
Last week, they fell to SBU after allowing them to score 17 unanswered points in the first quarter. Despite McKendree outscoring their opponents 17-7 in the remaining three periods, they allowed SBU their first conference win of the season. 
 
McKendree averages 15 points per game while their opponents average just over 46. They are led in the ground game by Eddie Clark who rushes for an average of 40 yards per game. Caleb Fisher is behind the spiral for the Bearcats and has completed 86 of 141 passes and has thrown ten interceptions. His primary target is Yogi Flager Jr., who has scored five touchdowns this season and has collected 406 yards receiving (81 per game).

  • Mante Morrow leads the conference in reception yards with 486, averaging 81 each game
  • John Butsch is third in the GLVC for total tackles with 42, averaging 7.0 per game
  • Tyler Owen and Sean Mitchell (WJC) lead the conference in interceptions with three
  • Jayden Mitchell is seventh in total rushing yards with 297, an average of 49.5 per game


BACK-TO-BACK BEARCATS… The Peacocks are back in Fayette next weekend against another Bearcat squad, this time facing Southwest Baptist University on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.
