Upper Iowa found themselves in a tough position from the jump as UMary got off to a 16-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game. UIU retaliated with a 9-0 run, stemming from a driving layup by
Lydia Haack and triples from
Mia Huberty and
Brooke Evenson. Regardless of their rebuttal, the Marauders' early scoring fashion foreshadowed their fate, as the Peacocks fell short in an 80-56 result.
After a slow first quarter, the Peacocks came together and played a better ten minute segment. The second period was closer by the numbers as UIU was only outscored 20-16. This brought the halftime score to 63-46 in favor of UMary. The third quarter was kept equal in points as each team scored with 17. However, the Peacocks were kept out of reach and unable to rally to get themselves back into the game in the final quarter.Â
The Peacocks struggled to convert outside shots, something that has helped them keep within close proximity of their previous opponents. They shot 6-22 (27.3%) beyond the arc in comparison to the Marauders who went 8-19 (42.1%). Overall, UIU shot 21-63 (33.3%) while UMary netted 27-57 (47.4%).
