Huskies Halt Peacock Comeback to Wrap up Weekend

Upper Iowa women's basketball wrapped up their weekend with a valiant effort on the road against St. Cloud State, but came up shy in a 64-57 result.  The Peacocks were down 52-38 with under seven minutes left to play. They came all the way back and cut the deficit to two points with 30 seconds remaining, but were unable to seal the deal. The loss dropped Upper Iowa to 2-10 in the conference and 6-11 overall. St. Cloud State improved to 12-4 (9-3 NSIC) on the season.

After being up by one at the half, the Peacocks allowed the Huskies to open the third quarter with a 12-0 scoring run. The trend was snapped by Katie Tornstrom as she netted a three-point pull up after nearly eight scoreless minutes for UIU.

Upper Iowa didn't draw close to St. Cloud until there was one minute left to play. Scoring from Lydia Haack and Emma Anderson brought the Peacocks from a 13-point deficit to only being down by four. After free throws from the Huskies and back to back scores from Tornstrom, the Peacocks were down by two, 59-57, with 30 seconds remaining. UIU sent SCSU to the line in hopes of getting ahead, but the Huskies converted five straight free throws to seal the game.

Upper Iowa was back to hunting their three-point shot tonight as they converted 9-22 (40.9%) from beyond the arc. St. Cloud State shot 5-15 from three-point land.

Haack nearly tallied a triple-double as she scored 12 points, grabbed 10 boards and dished out nine assists. Tornstrom led the team in scoring with 15 points, going 6-13 from the field and 3-6 from long distance. Callista Rochon-Baker added 10 points, respectively.

Katrina Theis led all scorers in today's contest as she scorched the nets for 31 points, going 11-18 from the floor, including 9-10 from the charity stripe. Tori Peschel hauled in 15 boards in the contest.

The Peacocks are on the road again next weekend as they travel to North Dakota for another pair of NSIC matchups. They start off at the University of Mary on Friday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. UIU matches up with Minot State the following day for a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
