The Upper Iowa shotgun sports team began the fall portion of their schedule this past Saturday at the Coe Sporting Clay Invite. The event was hosted by Coe College at Highland Hideaway in Riverside, Iowa, and featured teams from four different schools.

Each competitor shot a total of 200 sporting clay targets over the course of two rounds. The top three individual scores were used to configure each team's overall score out of 600.

UIU finished in second place, breaking a total of 505 targets. William Penn University finished with the highest overall score at 544. Coe (470) and Wartburg College (428) rounded out the field.

Colton Heintz-Kuderer led the Peacocks and finished third overall individually with a score of 178/200, including a first round of 91/100.
Connor Gittings (168/200) and
Lucas Riberich (159/200) also contributed to the team score.
Angelina Monfrey finished in a tie for third among female competitors with a score of 157/200, two targets shy of the top score.

"I am proud of how the team worked together this weekend communicating and helping one another do their best," said Head Coach
Reba Kingsley. "We have some things to work on, and at practice this week, we will fine tune before the next competition. We are off to a good start and look forward to the rest of the season."

Up next, the UIU shotgun sports team are set to compete at the Midland Invite, hosted by Midland University, in Lincoln, Nebraska beginning on September 17.
