Box Score Upper Iowa women's soccer was deemed victorious in their NSIC opener against Southwest Minnesota State University in a 1-0 decision. The Peacocks improve to a 2-2-0 (1-0 NSIC) record. SMSU drops to 0-1-3 (0-1 NSIC).
The contest remained 0-0 until the 70th minute of the match. Senior
Jordan Zarate found the back of the net, putting Upper Iowa up 1-0 which held for the entirety of the match. This was Zarate's first goal of the 2022 season. Her score was assisted by
Chloe Jarosz.
Upper Iowa fired off five shots in the competition in comparison to nine from SMSU. Three of them were on goal. Attempts were taken by
Haley Ramberg,
Jordan Zarate,
Alex Garcia and
Rachyl Benavides. Goalkeeper
Jamie Kerkvliet posted two saves in the duel.
The Peacocks are back in action Sunday at 1 p.m in Sioux Falls. They will face the Cougars in their second NSIC matchup of the season.
