THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK WRESTLING... No. 15 Upper Iowa wrestling (4-5, 1-3 NSIC) returns to the mat in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium for their third-straight dual at home. The dual also marks UIU's last home action for the 2021-22 season. The Peacocks will line up against the No. 17 Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato on Thursday at 7 p.m.

LAST WEEKEND ON THE MAT... Upper Iowa split a pair of home duals against No. 21 Northern State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead last Saturday and Sunday.
Myron Crawford posted a 2-0 record to improve his NSIC record to 3-1 and his overall record to 11-3 on the year. UIU's 184-pounder posted four takedowns and allowed just three escapes in his 9-3 win against Northern State; the win pushed UIU in front 15-14 with two bouts to go in the dual. On Saturday, Crawford dominated his match against MSU Moorhead at 184 pounds scoring a total of 12 takedowns to go with one escape to secure a 25-10 tech fall victory. Crawford, and
Chase Luensman (157), were the only two Peacocks to post 2-0 records over the weekend. Luensman secured a pair of decisions and did not surrender an offensive point to his opponents.

Ryan Steffen (165) all secured 1-0 records in the duals, but only took the mat once over the weekend.
IN THE RANKINGS… While Upper Iowa wrestling was nearing the end of their pause, a third set of regular season rankings from the National Wrestling Coaches Association was released. Upper Iowa is ranked No. 15 in the Division II Coaches Poll that was released on Jan. 21. Four Peacocks are ranked in the individual rankings as well with

Tate Murty,
Eric Faught and
Chase Luensman all earning a spot in the top 12 in their respective weight classes. Anderlik is ranked No. 5 in the nation at 133 pounds with a record of 12-2. The Cresco, Iowa native has six bonus-point wins including four wins by fall, a tech fall and a major decision. Murty returned to action at the NUWAY Combat College Open on Jan. 6. The 2021 All-American is ranked No. 7 at 141 pounds with a 7-1 record. Murty has six bonus-point wins with two falls, three tech falls and a major. Faught is ranked No. 10 at 149 pounds with a 11-2 record highlighted by four wins by fall and three major decisions. Luensman claims the No. 7 ranking at 157 pounds in the latest release. The wrestler from Monticello, Iowa is 15-3. His five bonus-point victories have come in the form of two falls, one tech fall and two majors. Luensman has scored a team-high 156 points in his matches for an average of 8.7 per bout.
INSIDE THE TEAM STATS… This season, Upper Iowa wrestlers (including unattached matches) have won 266 of their 420 matches claiming a win percentage of 63.3%. The squad has posted 131 bonus-point wins including 76 falls, 19 tech falls and 36 major decisions.
SCOUTING THE NO. 17 MAVERICKS… Minnesota State is 2-4 overall and in the Northern Sun Conference with wins over Minot State University (26-10) and Minnesota State University Moorhead (41-6). Last weekend, the Mavericks wrestled in three duals in Mankato, Minn. against MSU Moorhead on Friday and then took on both Northern State University and St. Cloud State University on Saturday. MSU is led by four nationally-ranked wrestlers including No. 10 Trenton McManus (125), No. 5 Kyle Rathman (149), No. 8 Trevor Turriff (174) and No. 10 Darrell Mason (285).
THE REMAINING SCHEDULE… After Thursday night's dual, Upper Iowa will wrap up their regular season at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside with a dual against the No. 8 Rangers on Wednesday, Feb. 16 in Kenosha, Wis. Upper Iowa will then send 10 wrestlers to Moorhead, Minn. for the NCAA Division II Super Region V Championships on Feb. 26.
