Upper Iowa traveled to Minnesota State University for their next conference duel. The Peacocks struggled to maneuver full court pressure, which resulted in a 83-54 decision. As UIU drops to 4-4 on the season and 0-3 in the NSIC, the Mavericks improve to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in conference.
Minnesota State controlled the game from the beginning, netting the first 10 points of the game and keeping Upper Iowa off the scoreboard for nearly the first four minutes. UIU's leading scorer
Lydia Haack tallied seven points in the first period, but went on to score only two more in the entire contest.
Brooke Evenson took over the second quarter as she recorded 10 points in an attempt to keep Upper Iowa in the game. However, the closest they got was a 10-point margin when they trailed 22-12 at the beginning of the period. From then on, the Minnesota State offense took off as they held a 44-27 lead at halftime.
The Mavericks continued to grow their lead in the third and fourth quarter as they turned their defense into offense by causing the Peacocks to turn the ball over 29 times. Minnesota State converted 34 points from those turnovers.
Upper Iowa had 27 less shot attempts in comparison to their opponent as they went 17-54 (31.5%) from the floor. Minnesota State shot 33-81 (40.7%) from the field.
Evenson led the Peacocks with 10 points while Haack contributed nine.
Cassidy Pagel hauled in eight rebounds and
Lexie Lodermeier added seven.
The Mavericks were led by Destinee Bursch who netted 23 points going 10-20 from the field. Natalie Bremer added 19.
Next weekend, the Peacocks battle two more NSIC foes at home. They host the University of Sioux Falls on Friday, Dec. 9 at 5:30 p.m. The Peacocks take on Southwest Minnesota State University the following day with a 3:30 p.m. tip off.
