Upper Iowa women's basketball finished off their stretch of road games in Missouri with a 69-58 win over William Jewell. The Peacocks improved to 4-0 on the year, a mark that has not been reached by this program since the 1985-86 season.
Upper Iowa commanded an early lead that they kept for the entirety of the game, but not without William Jewell battling back. The score stayed within an eight-point margin until two minutes prior to halftime. The Peacocks went on an 8-0 run to give them the 40-29 lead as the first half concluded.As the Cardinals chipped away and remained within striking range during the second half, they eventually closed the gap to 56-55, only trailing by one with eight minutes left. Upper Iowa retaliated with an 11-0 run that pushed out their lead and drove them to victory.Â
Katie Tornstrom recorded a season high of 17 points on 7-15 shooting in tonight's matchup. She was complemented by
Callista Rochon-Baker who added 14 points and shot 5-8 from the field. The Peacocks converted 28-58 (48.3%) from field goal range.
Junior
Lydia Haack eclipsed the 600-point mark on the road this week as she sits at 604 total career points. She tallied eight points in tonight's match along with grabbing seven rebounds. Haack currently averages 19.5 points per game.
Two reached double figures for the Cardinals. Ayden Shannon tallied 14 points in tonight's contest. Joining her was Emree Zars who recorded 12 points and five rebounds. The Cardinals shot 21-53 (39.6%) from the field.
Upper Iowa returns to Dorman Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday to close off their non-conference schedule against Truman State University. Tip off against the Bulldogs is scheduled for 2 p.m.Â
