Upper Iowa women's basketball traveled to Rockhurst University for their first road game of the season. The Peacocks improved their winning streak to three games after tonight's 73-62 triumph. They sit at a flawless 3-0 mark, while the Hawks fell to 1-2 for the season.
Upper Iowa continued their sharp shooting trend as they went 9-17 (52.9%) from beyond the arc to help propel them to their victory. They commanded an early lead after back-to-back three pointers by
Callista Rochon-Baker. The Peacocks had as much as a 10-point advantage in the first quarter and remained in the forefront until relinquishing their lead just before halftime.Â
Rockhurst went on a 7-3 run to open the second half to push out their lead, but the Peacocks continued to battle. The score was tied 50-50 going into the fourth quarter as Upper Iowa kicked it into high gear and scored 23 additional points, shooting 7-13 (53.8%) from the field and 2-3 from downtown. They secured their win with a 11 point margin, their largest of the night.
Overall, UIU shot 27-64 (42.4%) from the floor and an impressive 9-17 (52.9%) from long range.
Lydia Haack led the way with 17 points, netting 5-6 from the charity stripe. She tallied six assists in the evening.
Callista Rochon-Baker continued her sniping streak as she shot 4-5 beyond the arc. She scored 16 points in the competition, shooting 5-8 overall.Â
Katie Tornstrom chipped in 13 points, shooting 5-6 from field goal range.
Helen Staley hunted the glass as she hauled in 11 boards in tonight's matchup.
Rockhurst's Molly Hummel led the way for the Hawks as she recorded 18 points, including converting 6-7 from the line.Â
Up next, the Peacocks play their second Missouri matchup tomorrow as they head to William Jewell for a 6 p.m tip off. UIU will wrap up their non-conference schedule as they welcome in Truman State to Dorman Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday at 2 p.m.Â
