Women’s Soccer Wraps up Season With Loss at Winona State

The Peacocks traveled to Winona, Minn. for their last matchup of the 2022 season. They fell to the Warriors 3-1. Winona State improved to 9-5-4 (7-4-4 NSIC) and the Peacocks finished 2-12-4 overall and 1-10-4 in conference.

The season finale , like many other matches this year, saw the Peacocks having to claw back from an early deficit. During the opening minutes, the Warriors pushed from the left hand side. Closing in on Upper Iowa territory, the ball cut from one side to another and was fired past Isabelle Wagner in the UIU goal.

The Peacocks had the next four shots on goal, courtesy of Alex Garcia and senior duo Haley Ramberg and Katie Samuels. In the 11th minute of the game, Chloe Jarosz took a corner kick and drilled the ball low towards the middle of the goal, beating both the defender and goalkeeper on the goal line to draw the game 1-1. This was Jarosz's first goal of the season and of her Peacock career.

The rest of the half swung back in favor of the hosts as they outshot the Peacocks 8-4.

The second half started in similar fashion to the first. At the 53:13 mark, Winona put themselves ahead with a  2-1 lead. Just four minutes later, the advantage was doubled as the Warriors scored what would be the final goal of the game to wrap it up 3-1.

The game saw the final action in Peacock colors for six seniors, five of which started the game. Haley Ramberg (67 games, 11 goals), Leah Willenbring (48 games, 1 goal), Katie Samuels (70 games, 12 goals), Jordan Zarate ( 32 games, 2 goals), Toni Powsey (28 games, 1 goal) and Grace Birdsley (45 games, 1 goal). They each brought stellar careers to Upper Iowa and totaled a combined 287 appearances.
