The No. 14 Peacock wrestling team completed their competition on day one of the NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals on Thursday with a 1-2 record moving their overall record to 3-3 this season. UIU started the day with an impressive 30-13 win over Tiffin University, before dropping a pair of duals to Newberry College and Fort Hays State University by scores of 25-18 and 24-15, respectively. Both Tiffin and Fort Hays State were receiving votes in the latest NWCA Division II Top 25.
 
Upper Iowa had great three-win days at both 133 pounds and heavyweight with Kaden Anderlik (2-0) grabbing two decisions, Donny Schmit (1-0) claiming a win by fall in his match against Newberry, and Jordan Baumler (3-0) posting a pair of tight decisions after winning by forfeit in Upper Iowa's opening dual of the day.
 
Chase Luensman (157) scored a pair of one-point decisions for a 2-0 record, while two other Peacock grapplers went 2-1 on the day. Colter Bye (174) registered a two-point win against Tiffin before dropping a decision to Newberry before recording a win by fall (2:28) in his final match of the day. Myron Crawford (184) claimed two decisions in his first two matches, but lost in his bout against Fort Hays State to close out the day.
 
Eric Faught (149) grabbed a win in the first match by fall (1:17) before losing a bout in the Newberry dual, while Ryan Steffen (165) went 1-0 on the day with a win by fall in UIU's win over Tiffin. Cameron Lopez (165) went 1-1 in his Peacock debut to secure a 2-1 record at 165 pounds for the Peacocks. Lopez's win came by fall (2:40) in the Newberry match.
 
Against Tiffin, the Peacocks won seven of the ten bouts including two by fall at the hands of Faught (149) and Steffen (165). Other winners in the dual included Anderlik (133), Luensman (157), Bye (174), Crawford (184) and Baumler (285). The Dragons came out strong and pushed out to a quick 7-3 lead heading into the 149-pound match, but Faught's win by fall opened a five-match win streak that saw UIU claim a 24-7 lead. Each team scored six in their final wins of the dual to set the final score at 30-13.
 
After falling behind 6-0 early in the quarterfinal dual with Newberry, Schmit pulled the Peacocks even with a win by fall (1:13) at 133 pounds. Three straight Newberry wins at 141, 149 and 157 pounds put the Wolves in control of the action. Cameron Lopez got the Peacocks back into the scoring with a win by fall (2:40) to move the gap to seven, 19-12. In the final four bouts, each team won a pair of decisions. UIU's two wins came at 184 pounds with Crawford and 285 pounds with Baumler securing the final score at 25-18 in favor of Newberry.
 
Upper Iowa got behind early for the third time on the day and trailed 6-0 after the 125-pound match. Anderlik scored a win by decision to cut the gap in half, but the Tigers claimed a one-point decision and a win in the sudden victory period at 141 and 149 pounds to push their lead to 12-3. Luensman returned the Peacocks to the win column at 157 pounds and Colter Bye (174) scored a win by fall (2:28) to bring UIU within three, 15-12, but a win by fall at 184 pounds and a decision at 197 pounds for Fort Hays State improved their advantage to twelve, 24-12. Baumler won an 8-7 decision to close the dual and lock in the final score at 24-15.
 
After the duals, Upper Iowa will head out on the road to battle the No. 25 Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn. on Jan. 14 at 7 p.m.
