The Upper Iowa men's soccer team fell by a score of 3-1 against Saginaw Valley State University despite tying the match early in the second half. The loss drops the Peacocks to 3-3 (0-3 GLIAC) on the year while the Cardinals improve to 5-2 (2-1 GLIAC) on the season.
Saginaw Valley took the first five shots of the first half, but the only attempt of those that was on goal came on their first shot at the 2:27 mark. The Peacocks took the next two shots and got good looks from
Italo Martins Soares and
Alan Dunlop, but the first score of the match came off a Cardinal player to give SVSU a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute. The score stayed 1-0 through the first 45 minutes as Saginaw Valley claimed advantages in shots (6-2), shots on goal (2-1), and corner kicks (2-0) in the first period.
Looking to tie the score and get back into the game, Upper Iowa came out with some aggressive play in the second half. The pressure paid off as the Peacocks evened the score at 1-1 after a goal from Martins Soares at the 47:32 mark thanks to an assist from
Iver Nesset. The tie would not last long as SVSU pushed their lead back to one at the 49:13 mark. Neither team was able to get a shot off for the next 15 minutes as UIU looked to tie the score once again, but the next goal of the match was put in by the Cardinals in the 65th minute to give SVSU a 3-1 lead. The Peacocks took two shots in the final three minutes of the match, but the score remained 3-1 at full time.
PEACOCKS OF THE GAME...
- Italo Martins Soares scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season just 2:32 into the second half that tied the score at 1-1. The senior played full time and tied for the match-lead with three shots.
- Iver Nesset dished out his second assist of the season to Martins Soares, tying for the team-lead in assists on the season in the process.

- Upper Iowa tied Saginaw Valley with four shots and one corner kick apiece in the second half, but SVSU led the match in both categories after securing advantages in the first half.
