Duax Doubles Down, Leads Peacocks to Fifth Straight Win

Upper Iowa defeated Concordia University, St. Paul by a score of 99-74 on Saturday afternoon. The Peacocks led wire-to-wire in the team's fifth consecutive victory. Lucas Duax recorded a double-double with 22 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Duax's 13 boards were the most registered by any Peacock since November of 2017. The sophomore's seven offensive rebounds were the most by any UIU player since January of 2017. Following the win, UIU improves to 7-5 overall, 5-3 in the NSIC while CSP falls to 1-9 on the year, 0-6 in conference play dropping their ninth straight game.

Upper Iowa defeated Concordia University, St. Paul by a score of 99-74 on Saturday afternoon. The Peacocks led wire-to-wire in the team's fifth consecutive victory. Upper Iowa began the game on a 9-2 run gaining some initial separation. Jareese Williams and Duax provided all of the scoring during the 2:13 stretch. Concordia quickly rattled off nine unanswered to tie the game at 20 all with 11:21 on the clock. The Peacocks responded with a 16-4 advantage to claim the lead 49-34 with 1:44 left in the half. The Duax brothers fueled the stretch, combining for 11 points. Upper Iowa held onto their 15-point advantage as they went to the locker room ahead 51-36 at the break. 

Lucas Duax could not be stopped in the opening period scoring 19 points on an 8-11 (72.7%) rate from the floor to go with a game-high seven rebounds and a pair of steals. Controlling the glass and forcing turnovers were pivotal for the Peacocks' first half success. UIU out rebounded CSP 22-14 while holding a +6 turnover margin. Upper Iowa also outscored Concordia 16-2 on the fastbreak in the opening period.

Upper Iowa maintained control for the remainder of the game. UIU pushed their lead to as high as 29 following a 24-9 advantage from 7:29 to 0:55. Jake Hilmer scored eight points amid the stretch and was one of eight Peacocks to score during the period as 15 different Peacocks logged minutes throughout the contest. Travis Goede and Jake Zielke scored their first points of the year as the game came to a close helping secure a 99-74 victory for Upper Iowa.


STATS OF THE GAME… 

  • Upper Iowa returned to form beyond the arc connecting on 9-19 (47.4%) of their attempts from three-point land.

  • UIU controlled the boards 46-32 including an 18-8 advantage while on offense.

  • The Peacocks forced double the turnovers they committed (16-8).


PEACOCKS OF THE GAME… 

  • Duax had the game-highs in points (22), rebounds (13), and steals (3).

  • Williams tallied 21 points, eight boards, and two assists.

  • Hilmer posted a steady spread of 17 points, two rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a 3-4 (75%) rate from deep.

  • Dylan Jones scored 12 points on a 6-9 (66.7%) rate from the floor to go along with four rebounds, two blocks, an assist, and a steal.
