Upper Iowa Sweeps Sioux Falls on Dig Pink Night

Upper Iowa volleyball hosted the University of Sioux Falls on Dig Pink Night in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium and came away with a 3-0 sweep of the Cougars in three tightly-contested sets. The Peacocks took advantage of their time at the service line and got 21 kills from their senior outsides to post set wins by scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-23.

In terms of advantages at the service line, the Peacocks registered a 7-4 advantage in aces, while the Cougars couldn't seem to get comfortable at the line recording 14 service errors.

The errors at the line countered a productive attack from Sioux Falls, who hit .300 for the match with 42 kills in 100 swings and only 12 attack errors. Upper Iowa hit .238 in the match with 40 kills in 105 swings and 15 errors, but only committed six service errors.

Fittingly, the match came to an end on a service ace from Kaitlin Niedert after the Peacocks pulled off a side-out on a desperation free ball over the net by Maggie Streightiff found a place to touch the hardwood of Prochaska Court. The two points broke a 23-23 tie and secured the sweep for the home team.

Streightiff led the offense with 11 kills, while Niedert followed closely with 10 kills adding 5 digs. Emily Kono and Zoe Semelroth added 6 and 5 kills, respectively. Both Jaima Tonne and Nicole Pozorski handed out 16 assists, while Charisma Herr and Madelyn Rettler kept the back line together with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Peacocks, who improved to 14-5 overall and 7-3 in the Northern Sun, will take on No. 10 Southwest Minnesota State University on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium.
