The Upper Iowa University women's soccer team took care of business on their home pitch with a 3-0 win over the University of Minnesota Crookston on Pattison Field in Fayette. The Peacocks improve to 6-5 (4-5 NSIC) on the season while the Golden Eagles fall to 1-10 (1-7 NSIC) on the year.
Upper Iowa earned three corner kicks in the first six minutes of the match as they looked to apply offensive pressure early, but their first shot did not come until the 10th minute. The UIU offensive pressure earned the Peacocks a penalty kick at the 19:42 mark, and even though the PK attempt was missed by
Leah Willenbring she picked up an assist to
Haley Ramberg after Ramberg recorded a goal on the rebound to put UIU up 1-0.
The Peacocks took the next eight shots of the game, and
Sami Reding's shot at the 37:05 mark was perfectly placed into the top of the net to double UIU's lead after an assist from
Aimee Sies. Neither team took a shot for the remainder of the half, and the Peacocks took their 2-0 lead into the second period after outshooting the Golden Eagles by a 12-3 margin (5-0 shots on goal).
In the second half, Upper Iowa continued their offensive push as they took the first three shots of the period, including two shots on goal by
Liv Wildeman. The first UMC shot of the half came at the 65:03 mark, and the Peacocks would go on a stretch of nine unanswered shots before the Golden Eagels took their next shot at the 84:50 mark. Despite the shot advantage, Upper Iowa was unable to convert on their third goal, but
Natalie Rudrud saved the lone shot on goal from Minnesota Crookston as the score stayed 2-0 until the 86:28 mark.
Ramberg recorded her second score of the match after Reding assisted her, and the Peacocks pushed their advantage to a 3-0 lead that they held until the final horn.
PEACOCKS OF THE GAME...
- Haley Ramberg scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 19:55 mark to put UIU up 1-0. She tacked on the last goal of the match as well to give the Peacocks a 3-0 lead. Ramberg also led the match with six shots and put two shots on goal in her 87 minutes of action.
- Sami Reding put the Peacocks up 2-0 with a beautiful goal in the 38th minute. Reding also assisted on Ramberg's second goal as she provided a spark off the bench in her 77 minutes. The forward fired off five shots and led the match with three shots on goal.
- Leah Willenbring and Aimee Sies each recorded an assist for the UIU offense and played full time for a Peacock defense that recorded their fourth shutout of the season.
- Liv Wildeman (3 shots, 2 on goal), Grace Birdsley (2 shots), Samantha Maudsley (3 shots, 1 on goal), Jordan Zarate (2 shots), and Alex Garcia (2 shots, 1 on goal) joined Ramberg, Reding, and Willenbring as the Peacocks to take two or more shots.
STATS OF THE GAME...
- The Peacocks out-shot the Golden Eagles by a 28-5 margin that included a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal.
- UIU earned seven corner kicks while allowing just two to UMC.
