The Upper Iowa University women's basketball team was unable to withstand the Augustana University Vikings after leading at the midway point in the first quarter. The Vikings took advantage of 25 turnovers from UIU to secure a 23-3 advantage in points off turnovers on their way to an 82-39 victory over the visiting Peacocks. The Augies improve to a 5-3 (4-2 NSIC) record on the season while the Peacocks drop to 1-8 (0-7 NSIC) on the year.Â
Turning Points…Â
The Peacocks took an 11-10 lead at the 4:35 mark in the first quarter of play before the Augies went on a 16-1 run to go up 26-12 in the second quarter. UIU would answer with a 6-0 run that included two buckets from Katie Tornstrom and one from Lydia Haack, but the Augies would go on to close out the half on a 13-0 run and take a 42-21 lead into the break. The Vikings would not give up much until the fourth quarter as they allowed only 5 UIU points in the third and increased their lead to 64-26 after ending the period on a 16-0 run.Â
Peacock Leaders…
- Haack scored a team-high 14 points for the Peacocks that included 8 points in the fourth quarter alone over a 3:43 stretch near the start of the final period. She also added a team-high 3 assists.
- Tornstrom scored 7 points for UIU while also grabbing 4 rebounds.
- Brooke Evenson made two shots from behind the 3PT line and finished with 6 points and a game-high 8 rebounds for Upper Iowa.
Viking Leaders… Â
- Izzy Van Veldhuizen led the Augies with a game-high 18 points on 6-11 (54.5%) shooting that included a 4-8 (50%) clip from three.
- Four other Vikings scored in double figures as Vishe' Rabb and Aislinn Duffy scored 13 apiece while Lauren Sees and Hannah Mitby notched 10 points each.Â
