The No. 20 Peacock wrestling team hosted the No. 12 Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato on Thursday night in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium. The Mavericks came away with a 19-13 win after rallying from a 9-3 deficit. UIU won three of the first four matches in the dual, but MSU pulled off the comeback with five wins in the remaining six matches. The loss dropped the Peacock's record to 1-2 on the year, while the Mavericks improved to 3-0.

The dual opened with a match up of nationally-ranked wrestlers at 174 pounds as MSU's Trevor Turriff (No. 3) battled UIU's Myron Crawford (No. 12). Each wrestler scored an escape through the first three periods, but neither could find the takedown to win until the first overtime period when Turriff caught Crawford to win 3-1.

After the close loss, the Peacocks rattled off three straight wins at 184, 197 and 285 pounds. No. 8 Dalton Hahn opened the run with a 7-3 decision over Dylan Butts fueled by a pair of takedowns and a ride time point. Redshirt freshman Zach Ryg then registered an 8-5 decision over returning All-American Matt Blome thanks to a big third period in which he recorded two escapes and a takedown to secure the win. While Hahn and Ryg each kept their records untarnished on the season at 3-0, UIU's heavyweight Jordan Baumler moved to 2-1 with a 3-2 win over David Griffet thanks to an escape and takedown in the second frame.

No. 10 Trenton McManus and the NSIC's reigning Wrestler of the Week Kaden Anderlik got together at 125 pounds. After each wrestler posted an escape in the match, the bout looked to be destined for an overtime period, but McManus got a takedown at the buzzer to win 3-1 and snap the UIU momentum.

Minnesota State kept the momentum with another tight decision at 133 when Brock Luthens outlasted Donny Schmit for a 4-3 decision. An early takedown and ride time point for Luthens proved to be the difference in the final outcome. With the win, the Mavericks knotted the score at 9-9 with four bouts to go.

Kolbe O'Brien (141) and No. 2 Kyle Rathman (149) posted seven more points for the visitors pushing MSU's lead to 16-9. O'Brien defeated No. 9 Tate Murty (9-5) behind three takedowns and a reversal, while Rathman controlled UIU's Chance Throndson for a 10-1 major decision.

No. 8 Chase Luensman gave Upper Iowa a shot with a major decision of his own at 157 pounds. Luensman scored four takedowns and a pair of nearfall points on the way to an 11-3 win that brought the home team back within three points, 16-13, heading into the final bout.

Scott Kellenberger and Michael Smith toed the line for the deciding bout and early on both men were on the offensive. The pair each notched a takedown and escape in the first period and took a 3-3 tie into the first break. Smith used a pair of takedowns in the second period to gain some breathing room and then held on for a 9-6 decision that gave MSU the six-point win.

The two teams stayed on the mat for five extra matches following the dual. Upper Iowa came out on the right side of the score in four of the five matches including a major decision at 133 pounds by Philip Ihde. Ihde posted a 16-2 win thanks to three takedowns, a four-point nearfall, a two-point nearfall and a reversal.

Connor Manderfeld (141), Eric Faught (149) and Dalton Schams (149) each posted wins by decision. Manderfeld used a takedown in the second and one more in the third period to post a 6-4 win. Faught was dominant in his match with four takedowns on the way to an 11-5 victory, while Schams won 6-2 behind a pair of first-period takedowns.

In the final match of the night, MSU's Brody Nielsen defeated UIU's Mac Spotts by major decision 9-0.
