Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of the spring season, the Upper Iowa Athletics Department is spending the next few months spotlighting many of our Peacock student-athletes whose spring seasons came to a premature end.
In today's virtual interview, Pete the Peacock gets to know UIU baseball's infielder Conner Klostermann. Conner is a redshirt senior from Dyersville, Iowa who came to Fayette three years ago from Des Moines Area Community College. He is majoring in Secondary Education with emphasis in English.
PETE: How would you describe yourself in three words?
CONNER: Hardworking, determined, thoughtful
PETE: What made you want to be a collegiate student-athlete?
CONNER: I love baseball and as my high school career ended, I wasn't ready to let it go.
PETE: What have you learned about what it takes to be a student-athlete?
CONNER: It takes a lot of work to be a student-athlete. From the weight room, to the classroom, to practice, to competition, it takes a truly dedicated individual to be a student-athlete.
PETE: What advice would you give to your 14-year old self?
CONNER: I'd tell my 14-year old self to slow down and enjoy the little things because they go by really fast.
PETE: What is something most people don't know about you?
CONNER: Most people don't know I'm an avid fantasy football player and I take it VERY seriously.
PETE: What is your favorite thing about your hometown?
CONNER: The movie Field of Dreams was filmed there.
PETE: What is your favorite thing about Fayette?
CONNER: My favorite thing about Fayette is Wade Whitcher, a UIU Hall of Famer. He makes a fire Buffalo Chicken Pizza at DT's Pub and Primetime Pizza.
PETE: How do you want to be remembered?
CONNER: I want to be remembered as a good teammate and a guy who put forth his best effort everyday.
PETE: What are the top three things on your bucket list?
CONNER: Travel to all of the MLB stadiums, go to the College World Series, and visit a foreign country.
PETE: What is your dream job if money wasn't a factor? Why?
CONNER: My dream job is to be a college head baseball coach.
PETE: Who are three people (dead or alive) you'd love to have dinner with? Why?
CONNER: I'd love to sit down with Steve Carrell, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell. They are the funniest guys on the planet!
PETE: What is your most memorable sports moment?
CONNER: Hard to choose just one, just overall been a really fun experience at UIU and there are countless memories with teammates and coaches that go into that.
PETE: What fictional character (movie, TV show, book, cartoon, etc.) would you want to be for a day? Why?
CONNER: Definitely, 100%, zero questions asked, Michael Scott. He's the greatest TV show character of all time.
PETE: What is your favorite home cooked meal?
CONNER: My favorite home cooked meal is Mac and Cheese Corn Casserole. It's exactly how it sounds and it's dynamite.
PETE: Do you have any collections? If so, what?
CONNER: I collected baseball cards when I was younger. I'd guess I have well over 15,000 baseball cards.
PETE: What is your dream vacation spot? Why?
CONNER: I'd love to go to Hawaii for the warm weather and relaxation!
PETE: What is your favorite restaurant in the world? What do you order?
CONNER: This is a really tough decision. I'm gonna have to go with Dairy Queen, more specifically the Dyersville, Iowa location. Order their 4-piece chicken strip basket and I promise you will not be disappointed.
PETE: What is your favorite non-sport hobby?
CONNER: I love mowing the lawn. I find it to be very peaceful!
PETE: Where or who do you get your inspiration from?
CONNER: My parents have inspired me since I was little. They are very hard working small-business owners, and they preach that anything is possible!
PETE: If you could sing a duet with someone, who would it be? What song?
CONNER: I would sing My Life Be Like with my teammate Duncan Snider. It's so money.
PETE: What is one cause that you hold dear to your heart? Why?
CONNER: I hold cancer near and dear to my heart. I had a family member and some close friends succumb to the disease, and I hope someday we find a cure.
PETE: Do you play any musical instruments?
CONNER: I can play Smoke on the Water on the guitar. That's about it.
PETE: What is your go-to karaoke song?
CONNER: Breaking Free from High School Musical.
PETE: If you were a rap artist, what would your stage name be?
CONNER: K-Sauce
PETE: What would you bring on a one-way trip to Mars?
CONNER: A candy bar
