Upper Iowa defeated Minot State University by a 94-71 count on Saturday evening. The win is the Peacocks' eighth victory in their last ten games. With the win, Upper Iowa improves to 15-9 overall, 12-6 in conference play while Minot State falls to 10-14, 4-14 in NSIC play.
A 9-2 stretch put the Peacocks ahead 11-4 with 14:52 to play in the first half.Â
Upper Iowa extended their lead to double-digits after another 9-2 run put UIU ahead 29-19 with 5:05 left on the clock. The Peacocks held the lead headed into half by a 37-32 margin.
Upper Iowa broke off on a 14-2 stretch that increased their lead to 59-40 with 14:02 to go. The run was highlighted by a pair of layups from Lucas Duax.
A 7-0 run gave the Peacocks their largest lead of the day. The stretch put the Peacocks ahead 92-64 with 3:29 left to play. Upper Iowa held off Minot State for the remainder of the game, claiming the victory 94-71.

Williams scored a team-high 18 points shooting 6-9 (66.7%) from the field including 5-8 (62.5%) from deep. Williams also came down with four boards.

Carter scored 14 points and went 6-9 (66.7%) from the field. Carter also tallied four rebounds and two steals.

Smoldt scored 13 points as he shot 6-11 (54.5%) from the field. Smoldt had a team-high six rebounds and dished out a career-high seven assists.

Duax tacked on 10 points, he went 5-6 (83.3%) from the field, grabbed three rebounds and snatched two steals.

Joens scored 10 points, he converted 3-5 (60%) attempts from long distance.
UP NEXT… The Peacocks will return to Fayette for the final homestand of the 2019-20 regular season. Upper Iowa will host Southwest Minnesota State University and the University of Sioux Falls on Feb. 14-15.
