Upper Iowa fell to Concordia University, St. Paul by a 93-61 count on Saturday evening. The Peacocks finish the regular season with the fourth-best overall record in the NSIC, UIU was projected to finish 13th in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Tonight's 32-point loss is the largest margin of defeat the Peacocks have suffered this season. With the loss, Upper Iowa moves to 18-10 overall, 15-7 in the NSIC while Concordia improves to 9-17, 7-15 in conference play.
The Golden Bears held the lead for the entire first half in the wire-to-wire win. After an initial exchange of layups, Concordia broke off on a 13-0 run to go ahead 15-2 five minutes into the game. The Golden Bears then closed out the half on a 14-3 stretch to go up 46-23.Â
Concordia was on fire in the first half posting a 18-27 (66.7%) rate from the field including a 7-10 (70%) mark from beyond the arc. Upper Iowa struggled as they converting just 10-36 (27.8%) of their attempts from the field including a woeful 2-18 (11.1%) rate from three-point range. The Golden Bears (24) also tallied over double the Peacocks' (11) first-half rebounds.
On the bright side, UIU committed just two turnovers compared to the eight they forced CSP to give up. Upper Iowa's reserves also outscored the Concordia bench 19-2. Jackson Joens led the Peacocks with eight points at the break.
The Golden Bears continued to shoot the lights out starting the second half on a 22-5 run that put CSP ahead 68-28 with 13:46 left on the clock. Concordia maintained their large lead winning the game by a 93-61 final count.
