Upper Iowa lost to St. Cloud State University by a 79-62 count on Friday night. The defeat snaps the Peacocks' six-game win streak. The game was the first Upper Iowa loss in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium since November 23, 2019 as well as the first defeat to an NSIC team at home since February 9, 2019. Upper Iowa still holds sole possession of second place in the NSIC South as Minnesota State University Mankato suffered an 88-63 loss to Minnesota State University Moorhead earlier this evening. Following the game, Upper Iowa moves to 13-8, 10-5 in conference play while St. Cloud State improves to 11-10 overall, 8-7 in the NSIC.
After trading buckets for the majority of the first half, St. Cloud State used an 11-2 stretch to go ahead 30-21 with 4:09 left to go in the half. The Huskies maintained the advantage going into halftime up 40-34.
Jareese Williams led the Peacocks with nine first-half points going 3-4 from deep. Upper Iowa's second unit outscored St. Cloud State 13-5 in the second half.
The Huskies extended their lead to double-digits to begin the second half. St. Cloud State went up 46-34 with 17:39 to play. From that point forward the Huskies led by at least six points. St. Cloud State pushed their lead to as many as 20 points before ending the game ahead 79-62.
The Peacocks struggled to connect in the second half as they went 8-28 (28.6%) including 2-11 (18.2%) from three-point range in the final frame.
