The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team attacked the glass from wire-to-wire and took advantage of a large run midway through the first half to defeat the Upper Iowa University Peacocks 73-52 on Friday evening in Fayette. With the win, St. Cloud State improves to 15-4 overall and 12-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, while Upper Iowa falls to 3-18 overall and 2-13 in the league.

Both teams struggled to score in the opening minutes as the game sat at 6-4 in favor of SCSU after over five minutes of action. The Huskies then opened up the game with a 23-2 run including an 18-0 spurt to capture a 23-point lead with 7:50 left in the second quarter. Upper Iowa regrouped and saw scores from five different Peacocks as part of a 14-9 run that brought the score to 38-20, but a Husky three-pointer as time ran out pushed the visitors' lead up back up to 21 before the break.   

The Peacocks and Huskies battled through a tighter contest in the second half with each team adding 32 points to the scoreboard to set the final score at 73-52. Both teams shot 40.0 percent from the field with Upper Iowa holding an 18-15 advantage in long-range points and 6-3 scoring advantage at the line.

• St. Cloud State won the rebounding battle 46-29 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive boards. The Huskies cashed in 23 points on their offensive rebounds
• Upper Iowa shot just 13.3 percent in the opening quarter before converting 45.9 percent of shot attempts in the final three frames. Defensively, UIU slowed the Huskies from shooting 50.0 percent in the first to 38.5 percent the rest of the way. Upper Iowa was outscored by just four in the final 30 minutes of action.
