No. 3 Mavericks Control Peacocks in Final Match of Home Stand

The Peacock women’s soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to the No. 3 Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato on Sunday afternoon. The game was the second of the Northern Sun Conference season for both squads; MSU improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while UIU fell to 0-3-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the NSIC.

The Peacock women's soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to the No. 3 Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato on Sunday afternoon. The game was the second of the Northern Sun Conference season for both squads; MSU improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while UIU fell to 0-3-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the NSIC.
 
Minnesota State scored three goals in each half and posted a 28-7 advantage in shots including a 21-4 advantage in shots on goal. MSU earned 10 corner kicks on the afternoon and scored two of their goals off corner restarts.
 
MSU got the scoring started quickly with a breakaway goal less than a minute into the contest as Nadia Lowery finished assisting passes from Brittaney Kroll and Brynn Desens. The Peacocks settled in quickly and held tough for much of the remainder of the half, but with five minutes to play the Mavericks stole the momentum for good.
 
Alesha Duccini put a goal on the board in the 41st minute and Allie Williams scored in the 43rd minute to put MSU ahead 3-0 prior to the break. Tia Martin assisted on both goals with her service from the corner.
 
Dakota Wendell got a shot past UIU's keeper Natalie Rudrud in the 52nd minute after Brynn Desens picked up her second assist. Danielle Tazic made it 5-0 in the 69th minute on an assist from Anna Mixon and then scored the game's final goal in the 77th minute on backup goalie Liz Tank on an assist by Zoe Wright.
 
Rudrud played in the goal for nearly 76 minutes and allowed 5 goals and made 15 saves. Tank gave up a goal on the shot she faced in just over 14 minutes.
 
The Peacocks will head out on the road for the first time in 2019 next Friday and Sunday, Sept. 27 and 29. Upper Iowa will play at Bemidji State University on Friday at 3 p.m. and then the University of Minnesota Crookston on Sunday at 1 p.m.
