Upper Iowa Set to Host Peacock Soccer Classic Friday and Sunday

Upper Iowa will once again host the Peacock Soccer Classic on Pattison Field in Fayette this Friday and Sunday, Sept. 13 and 15. UIU will take on Davenport University on Friday at 5:30 p.m. following a match between Concordia University, St. Paul and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at 3 p.m. On Sunday, the Peacocks and Golden Bears will exchange opponents; the first match will begin at 12 p.m. between CSP and Davenport and UIU will follow with a tilt against Parkside at 2:30 p.m.

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S SOCCER…. Upper Iowa will once again host the Peacock Soccer Classic on Pattison Field in Fayette this Friday and Sunday, Sept. 13 and 15. LIVE OPTIONS…  Fans unable to attend the matches can follow along via live stats and a webcast, links can be found at UIUPeacocks.com/Live. All matches will be streamed through the NSIC app on Roku and Amazon Fire devices, as well as Apple and Android televisions. In addition, Upper Iowa's games will be broadcast on KCRG-TV 9.2/9.3.
 
SUNDAY'S DRAW WITH WILLIAM JEWELL… The Peacocks scored a goal in the 83rd minute to tie the match with William Jewell. The Peacocks and Cardinals played to a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of action on Sunday in Fayette. William Jewell came out strong in the first half taking 14 shots at the Peacock goal, while holding the home team to just one attempt. The Cardinals' Katie Pohl rocketed a shot past the UIU goal keeper after a misplay by the defense allowed her to get in close. Pohl's goal came in the 20th minute. In the second half, the Peacocks picked up their intensity and executed the game plan to stay on the offensive and put pressure on the Cardinal defense. In the second half, Upper Iowa took 11 shots in the second half and earned 4 corner kicks after none in the opening frame. With seven and a half minutes to play in the game, UIU's Facienne Graham crossed a ball into the box. After the keeper couldn't gather it up, freshman Aimee Kemper found herself with the ball on her foot in front of the net. Kemper knocked it in for her first collegiate goal and pulled the home team even.Both goal keepers made impressive saves in net with Natalie Rudrud recording 10 saves for UIU, while Kaylie Kappelmann stopped 7 shots for William Jewell.
 
FIRST IMPRESSIONS… A pair of newcomers got into the fray for Upper Iowa in their season-opening draw with Maryville University. Kemper made the largest impact with the game-tying goal and played well offensively and defensively from her midfield assignment. Freshman Creedence White also played a major role in the midfield. White played 98 minutes and was an immediate presence and target as UIU transitioned from defense to offense.
 
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS… Davenport comes into the weekend with a 1-1 overall mark after dropping their opening match at home to Quincy University 1-0, but picking up a 1-0 victory in overtime over Truman State University. Zayan Madeleine scored the game-winner in the 100th minute just before the end of the first overtime on an assist from Katherine Steiner. Goalkeeper Samantha Beckles has logged over 189 minutes between the pipes allowing just one goal while making 10 saves.
 
SCOUTING THE RANGERS… Parkside enters play on Friday with an 0-2 record. The Rangers lost a 4-0 decision in their home opener against the University of Indianapolis and then came up shy in a 3-2 match at the University of Illinois-Springfield. The goals for the Rangers have come off the feet of Alexis Baker and Viktoria Silva, while Baker and Sophia Toscano marked the scoresheets for an assist each. In net, Izzy Guyer has played 135 minutes allowing four goals while getting her hands on nine saves. Adrianna Bratel has been in net for 45 minutes allowing three goals with four saves.
 
LOOKING AHEAD… The Peacocks will close out their current five-match home stand next Friday and Sunday, Sept. 20 and 22. Upper Iowa will host Concordia-St. Paul on Friday at 4 p.m. and then welcome Minnesota State University, Mankato to Fayette on Sunday at 1 p.m.
