Peacocks Nipped by Minnesota State

Upper Iowa dropped game one of a three game series against the MSU Mavericks on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Peacocks to 8-18 overall and 5-16 in NSIC play.

The Peacocks dropped the first game of a three-game series against the Minnesota State Mavericks on
Saturday afternoon by a score of 16-6. The two teams played their first of three games at Robertson
Woods Field after the series was moved to Fayette due to weather conditions in Mankato. Saturday's
loss brings Upper Iowa's record to 8-18 overall and 5-16 against NSIC opponents while the Mavericks
move to 25-8 and 16-5 in conference play.

The Peacocks opened the scoring the top of the first inning, plating three runs in the first frame of the
game. Tony Salato scored the first run of the game for the Peacocks, coming home on an error by the
Maverick short stop. In the next at bat, Hogan Penny hit a shot to straightaway center that drove in a
pair of Peacocks to put Upper Iowa up 3-0.

Minnesota State responded in a big way, scoring 11 unanswered runs, picking one run up in the first,
seven in the second, and three in the third. The Mavericks touched up Upper Iowa starter Alexander Morales for 11 runs, 8 of which were earned, on 9 hits through his 2+ innings of work.

Upper Iowa played catch up for the remainder of the game, getting three runs back in the top of the
fifth inning. Two Peacocks came home after Salato drove them in with a double to deep right-center
field. Salato was driven in two batters later when Riley Braughton singled to cut the Mavericks lead to
11-6.

The Mavericks added five runs over the next two innings thanks to a pair of sacrifice flies and crossed
took advantage of a couple errors by Peacock fielders to get runs home to finish the game 16-6 after
seven innings of play.

Cam Kline was electric on the bump for MSU, striking out 10 UIU batters and only walking one through
his six innings. Kline allowed all 6 of the Peacock runs in the game but was charged with only 3 as he
improved to an NSIC leading 7-0 record.

Morales picked up the loss for Upper Iowa dropping his record to 2-4 this season. Upper Iowa sent four
pitchers to the hill to close out the final four innings, Greg Glass, Chris Webber, Alexander Glick, and
Chris Harsh all worked in relief.

Ian Imholte, Jordan Hart, and Teddy Peterson were swinging the hot sticks for the Mavericks; combining
for 8 hits, 6 RBIs, and 7 runs.

For Upper Iowa, Salato extended his hitting streak to 5 games, reaching base in each of the last 10
games on his way to his team-leading fifth multi-RBI game.

Upper Iowa and Minnesota State will wrap up their three-game series with a double-header on Sunday
afternoon. First pitch for game one is scheduled for noon and game two is slated to take place at 2:00
pm. Live stats will be available at UIUpeacocks.com/live.
