The 2018-19 season came to an end for the Upper Iowa men's basketball team after Wednesday night's 91-72 loss to the St. Cloud State Huskies in the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament. The Peacocks finished the season with a 7-22 record including going 4-18 in NSIC competitions. The Huskies will advance to the semifinal round and will take on the Wayne State Wildcats.

The Huskies were carried by a pair of strong offenses performances from Sean Smith and reigning NSIC Player of the Week Gage Davis who combined for 58 of SCSU's 91 points. Davis' 31 points marked just the second time this season UIU has allowed a single player to record 30 or more points.

In addition to Davis' 31 points, he also hauled in 9 boards, tallied 8 assists, and came away with 4 steals.

In his final game as a Peacock, Munachiso Okonkwo powered the Upper Iowa offense for one last time. Mu had dropped 21 points and pulled down 10 boards against the Huskies, marking his fifth career 20-point effort and eight double-double performance as a Peacock. Joe Smoldt trailed Okonkwo's pace by just one point, finishing the evening with 20 points. For Smoldt, Wednesday's game saw his third consecutive 20-point effort and his sixth of the season.

St. Cloud controlled virtually every aspect of the game against the Peacocks; the Huskies were the more efficient shooters, connecting on 57.8 percent from the field compared to UIU's 46.6 percent, outrebounding the Peacocks 33-27, and forcing 12 turnovers to Upper Iowa's 5. The one area where the Peacocks held the advantage was long-range shooting, UIU had nine makes on 40.9 percent shooting while the Huskies connected on eight attempts for 36.4 percent.
