The Upper Iowa women's basketball team traveled to Winona State University looking to even the season series at one game apiece, however the Warrior offense was too much for the Peacocks as they fell 79-60 in the final game of the 2019 slate. Upper Iowa dropped to 2-10 (1-5 NSIC) with the loss, while Winona State improved to 8-2 (4-2 NSIC).
The Warriors shot 50.0 percent from the field including 61.4 percent inside the arc to notch 33 baskets compared to Upper Iowa's 18 on 32.1 percent shooting. Winona State outrebounded the Peacocks 40-31 with just a 10-8 advantage in offensive boards, however the Warriors turned those opportunities into 17 points while the Peacocks only claimed seven points on their second chances.Â
Winona State's offense was nearly unstoppable in the opening minutes as the Warriors converted all but one of their first 10 shot attempts with two three-pointers to take a 20-7 lead on the Peacocks. Upper Iowa then nearly matched the home team's start with a 20-6 run fueled by 5-of-6 shooting from downtown, which gave the Peacocks a brief lead at 27-26 with 9:25 left in the second quarter. The run was fueled by 5-of-6 shooting from downtown led by Megan Peterson with two triples.Â
The Warriors got back in front shortly after but the Peacocks kept the game within two possessions until Winona State's first bucket of the second half that gave the home team a 44-36 lead. After Jessica Musgrave hit a three to cut the deficit to 47-41, the Warriors went on a 17-3 run that put the game out of reach as the Peacocks did not get come closer than 14 points the rest of the way.Â
