Peacocks Lead Wire-to-Wire in Victory over Rams

Four Peacocks tallied double-digit scoring, Brooke Evenson notched her first career double-double, and the Upper Iowa women’s basketball team led from the opening tip to the final buzzer in a 87-68 win over North Central University in the final non-conference match of the season. The victory marks the Peacocks’ second in the last three games and improves their record to 2-9 on the season.

Four Peacocks tallied double-digit scoring, Brooke Evenson notched her first career double-double, and the Upper Iowa women's basketball team led from the opening tip to the final buzzer in a 87-68 win over North Central University in the final non-conference match of the season. The victory marks the Peacocks' second in the last three games and improves their record to 2-9 on the season.

After the teams battled out to a 9-all draw, Upper Iowa captured its first double-digit lead of the game with a 17-1 run ignited by a Bekka Pierson layup towards the end of the first and capped off by a Megan Peterson triple with 9:09 left in the second. North Central got back into rhythm to outscore the Peacocks 16-10 before the end of the half, but Upper Iowa still went into the locker room with a 10-point lead at 36-26.

The Rams battled tough in the second half and were able to keep the deficit to single digits most of the way until the final 3:19 when Upper Iowa closed out the game on an 11-0 run. North Central did manage to shot 44.4 percent from the floor in the final two periods, however Upper Iowa made 57.1 percent of its shots on the other end to outscore the visitors 51-42 en route to the 19-point win.


PEACOCKS OF THE GAME… 
  • Brooke Evenson registered her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, both career-highs. She shot 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from the floor and lead the team with four takeaways
  • Jessica Musgrave went 10-for-19 to tally 23 points, while also contributing eight rebounds, a steal and a block
  • Megan Peterson finished with 14 points (5-of-12) and five assists, her third-straight game with double figure scoring and at least four assists
  • Bekka Pierson recorded 11 points (5-of-9) and eight rebounds

STATS OF THE GAME...
  • Upper Iowa registered season-high rebounds (44), assists (20), and steals (9)
  • The Peacocks had their best shooting performance of the season both from the floor (34-of-68) and from deep (11-of-25)

QUOTABLE...
 

UP NEXT... Upper Iowa will close out the 2019 slate with a 2 p.m. game against Winona State University on Sat., Dec. 21 in Winona, Minn. The Peacocks will then open the New Year at Northern State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead on Jan. 3-4.
