Upper Iowa women's soccer closed out their 2019 campaign today in Winona, Minn. against Winona State University. The two Northern Sun Conference schools got together for a match under the lights in Winona with temperatures in the mid-30s for one final conference contest in the regular season. The Warriors were playing for a spot in the NSIC Championships with a win and some help, while the Peacocks were looking to spoil their fun. After playing a scoreless 90 minutes, UIU's Aimee Sies put the Peacocks ahead for good as she put her corner kick into the net and sent the team into the offseason with a victory, 1-0.

After Sies' shot found the back of the net, Upper Iowa improved to 4-10-4 overall and 4-8-3 in the Northern Sun and a tie for 10th place in the league. Winona State was denied a spot in the postseason tournament for just the fourth time in their 25-year program history. The Warriors end the season with a record of 7-11 overall and 6-9 in the NSIC.

The goal for Sies was her second of the season both coming on corner kicks. Upper Iowa claimed a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks and were able to take advantage of their final set piece for the win.

Facienne Graham kept pressure on the Warrior defense with 7 shots including 4 on goal, while Grace Birdsley took 4 shots and Jayna Morikawa took a pair of swings.

Natalie Rudrud faced 9 shots and stopped them all to secure her fourth shutout of the season.

Quotables… 'Tonight was an incredible performance from the team considering the situation and conditions. On a frigid night, some of our soccer was really fantastic and defensively we were solid all night. Just really pleased for a great group of girls that they could end the season on a positive note. Lots to analyze and build on for the future, but tonight I hope the girls enjoy this result." – Head Coach James Price
