The Upper Iowa men's basketball team fell to the Northern State Wolves 73-102 on Saturday night in Dorman Gym. Despite strong shooting and a big night for
Munachiso Okonkwo, the Peacocks dropped the NSIC matchup and slide to 6-7 on the year. The loss snaps the Peacocks' three game NSIC win streak, bringing their record to 3-4 against conference opponents.
It seemed as if neither side was able to miss in the first half. Upper Iowa hit 63.3 percent of their shots from the field and 66.7 percent from beyond the arc only to be overshadowed by Northern State's impressive 70.6 percent from the floor and 63.6 percent from three-point range.Â
While the Peacocks were unable to duplicate the same level of success in the second half, NSU continued to knock down shots. The Wolves connected on 58.6 percent of their attempts in the second half, a pace that the Peacocks were unable to match as Northern State would close out the ball game on top, 102-73.Â
Peacock big man
Munachiso Okonkwo had a huge night for Upper Iowa, scoring a career high 25 points, recording 19 in the first half alone.
Chris Olson also contributed to the Peacocks' offensive efforts, adding 15 points.Â
The Peacocks knocked down nine three-pointers and finished the night shooting 48.3 percent from the floor. Northern wrapped up the night with a 65.1 field goal percentage, the first time since January of 2015 that an opposing team shot better than 60 percent against the Peacocks.Â
Upper Iowa will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon against the Dragons of MSU Moorhead. The Peacocks and Dragons are set to tip off at 5:30pm tomorrow in Dorman Gym. Â
