An own goal early in the second period put Northern State University ahead 2-1 and resulted in another tough loss for the Upper Iowa women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon. The loss marked the fifth time the Peacocks have lost by only one goal this season. The loss moved Northern State to 6-3-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the conference while Upper Iowa fell to 2-8 overall and 1-6 in NSIC play.

For the second time this season, the Peacock's lone goal of the match came from a successful penalty kick in the first period. Katie Samuels got the nod for the Peacocks and was able to notch her second goal of the season when the ball got past Jessica Otto.

Northern State got on the board first with a Teya Trujillo goal in the 27th minute off Stephany Estrada's cross from the left side of the penalty box. The Wolves didn't hold the 1-0 lead for long, though, as less than a minute and a half later Samuels tied the game up with a converted penalty kick. The teams continued to battle for the remainder of the first period with Natalie Rudrud making a big save in the 44th minute to keep the score tied headed into the break.

The Peacocks brought a determined offense into the second half that outshot the Wolves 7-4, but UIU was unable to put another goal away in response to an own goal in the 54th minute that put NSU ahead 2-1.

Upper Iowa was led by Maida Alijagic (3 shots, 2 shots on goal) and Samuels (2 shots, 1 goal) and saw shot attempts from seven different players. Rudrud played all 90 minutes and recorded six saves.

The Peacocks return back to Pattison Field for back-to-back weekends full of NSIC contests. UIU will face Wayne State College (Oct. 5), Augustana University (Oct. 7), St. Cloud State University (Oct. 12) and University of Minnesota Duluth (Oct. 14) in the stretch.
