The Peacock volleyball team improved to 7-1 overall with another two wins completing a perfect 4-0 weekend at the UIndy Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind. Upper Iowa swept the Greyhounds of the University of Indianapolis 3-0 and then defeated the Hawks of Quincy University 3-1.

Against the Greyhounds, Upper Iowa won three close sets by scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-23. UIU tallied 40 kills in the three sets led by juniors
Haley Poula (11) and
Anna Winter (9).
Malissa LeClaire handed out 30 assists, while
Gabby Holmes held the back line together with 21 digs. Both Poula and
Lauren Wombles recorded 5 blocks apiece.

In the first set, the Peacocks used a 5-2 run to close out the 25-20 win fueled by kills from three different players. UIU scored three of the final four points in the second set to claim a 25-21 decision highlighted by a pair of kills from
Bethany Lovhaug and Poula. In the final frame, Upper Iowa scored three of the final four points again to win 25-23. Kills from Poula and Wombles led to the win.

The Peacocks had to fight hard for a 3-1 win over Quincy in the team's final match of the weekend. Upper Iowa claimed the first set 25-20, but dropped set two 25-19. The Peacocks got wins in sets three and four, but needed extra time to record 26-24 and 27-25 wins.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Niedert knocked down 20 kills in the match, while Winter added 14 kills  and Poula chipped in 8. LeClaire paced the offense with 47 assists and added 15 digs to her stat sheet. Holmes led the defense with 25 digs, while
Haley Weepie added 16.

After the teams split the first two sets, the Peacocks outscored the Hawks 7-2 to close out the third set and rally from a three-point deficit late in the set. In the fourth set, UIU lost a six-point advantage, but the Peacocks scored three of the final four points including a pair of Wombles kills to close out the match.

Upper Iowa will host No. 2 Concordia University, St. Paul on Thursday at 6 p.m. before heading to Minnesota State University, Mankato on Saturday at 2 p.m.
