Despite arguably the best first half of the season for the Peacock's, Concordia University, St. Paul held on for the 2-1 win over Upper Iowa to remain undefeated. Katie Samuels led the team in the effort with one goal and three shots.
Concordia-St. Paul (4-0, 1-0 NSIC) started things off by producing four corner kicks in the first ten minutes of play. Mary Kaiser took all four kicks for the Golden Bears and was able to find Brooke Salo in position to score the first score of the game with a header in the 6th minute.
Samuels brought Upper Iowa (1-4, 0-2 NSIC) back into the game with a perfectly placed shot off a free kick in the 34th minute that went above the keeper's head to the opposite corner. The Peacocks outshot their opponent in the first period for the first time this season with a 5-4 advantage.
Both UIU and CSP exchanged saves to start the second period off tied at one apiece. Fifteen minutes into the period, Jordan Rowan-Stafford beat a defender in the box to place the ball out of Natalie Rudrud's reach and put the Golden Bears back on top.
Samuels had another opportunity to tie the game off a free kick, but the attempt went just high of the mark. Aimee Sies and Facienne Graham put the pressure on Jordyn Clark in the final minutes, but the keeper couldn't be fooled and the Golden Bears held on for their first conference win.
CSP finished with 12 shots - the fewest allowed by the Peacock defense this season - while Upper Iowa tied its season-high nine shots and put six on goal. Rudrud and Clark each came up with five saves on defense.
