Upper Iowa started slowly in their NSIC volleyball match at Winona State University on Tuesday, but the Peacocks woke up in the second set and never looked back. UIU picked up the 3-1 decision over WSU thanks to an average of 15 kills per set after the opening frame loss. Upper Iowa is now 8-3 overall and 1-2 in the NSIC, while Winona State drops to 3-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Hitters
Anna Winter and
Kaitlin Niedert both posted 20 kills in the match. Winter hit .367 while Niedert followed closely behind at .311.
Malissa LeClaire handed out 50 assists, while
Haley Weepie got her hands on 30 digs as the teams libero. At the net,
Bethany Lovhaug collected 7 blocks while
Haley Poula and Niedert each tallied 4 and
Lauren Wombles added 3.
After a slow start in set one that saw the Warriors claim a 25-22 win, the Peacocks bounced back with a dominating win in set two, 25-13, to to tie the match at 1 set apiece.
Upper Iowa held a few comfortable leads in the third set but the Warriors climbed back to within one point, 21-20, before Upper Iowa scored 5 of the final 7 points. Winter had 3 kills In the set-winning run.
The Peacocks cruised to a 25-12 victory in set 4 and took the match 3 to 1.
Upper Iowa will remain on the road for matches this weekend. The Peacocks will lineup against Sioux Falls on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and then head back East to Southwest Minnesota state on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
