Upper Iowa women's basketball converted a season-high eight scores from downtown but No. 24 Augustana University's offense was too much for the Peacocks to handle in an 86-52 loss. The Vikings improved to 10-1 (3-0 NSIC) with the win and Upper Iowa falls to 3-7 (0-3 NSIC).
Natalie Dinius and
Emma Gaber combined for seven of UIU's eight 3-pointers but first half turnovers and exceptional shooting by the Vikings put Upper Iowa in a hole they couldn't dig out of.
Gaber scored a three on Upper Iowa's first possession of the game to give the Peacocks a 3-2 lead, but UIU didn't see another score for the next five and a half minutes to trail 20-3 early on. Dinius sparked a 12-7 UIU run with another 3-pointer but the closest gap the Peacocks could close in on was trailing by 12 in the second quarter. The Vikings took advantage of 16 first half turnovers from Upper Iowa by scoring 22 points on the giveaways and shot nearly 30 percent better than Upper Iowa.
Both teams struggled to score in the third frame but a pair of triples by Dinius and a trio of free throws by
Haley Martin aided UIU in outscoring the Vikings 13-11 with ten minutes to go. The Peacocks and Vikings saw several minutes from the bench to close out the game.
Ally Fink recorded five points and four rebounds to lead UIU in the 4
th quarter.
Dinius tied her career-high five 3-pointers to finish with 15 points on 55.6 percent shooting beyond the arc, a season-high. The sophomore has now recorded three or more triples in seven straight games.
Savannah Domeyer led Peacock rebounding with six while Martin,
Erica Armstrong and Fink chipped in five apiece.
Shelby Selland (18 pts, 7 rbs), Lynsey Prosser (15 pts, 4 asts), and Abby Hora (11 pts, 6 asts) paved the way for the Vikings.
Upper Iowa hits the road against for a pair of NSIC matchups next week against Concordia University, St. Paul and Minnesota State University – Mankato.
