Peacocks Come Up Short on Senior Day, Fall to UMary 1-0

Upper Iowa was unable to send their three Peacock seniors off in the manner that they would have hoped, falling to UMary 1-0 in the final home game of 2018.

A quick goal at the start of the game proved to be enough for the University of Mary Marauders as they were able to hang on for a 1-0 win over the Peacocks. The loss drops the Peacocks to 4-8-2 and they will look to rebound on their final road trip of 2018 when they take on Northeastern State and Oklahoma Baptist in the season finale.

The Peacocks conceded an early goal off a set piece that proved to be enough of a lead as the Marauders were able to keep the Peacocks off the board. Upper Iowa came out to a sluggish start, getting just two shots off in the first half while they allowed UMary to take five. The second half saw a renewed energy to the Peacocks lineup as they were able to outshoot their opponents 7-6 in the second half but were unable to put one in the back of the net.

Prior to the match, the Peacocks honored three Peacock seniors and recognized their commitment to the Peacock soccer program over the course of their career. Goalkeeper Bradley Kaufer earned his second start of the season and recorded three saves in his final game at Pattison field. Midfielder Joaquin Alonso also made his final home appearance for the Peacocks, leading the Peacocks with two shots against the Marauders including a beautiful free kick that tested the range of the Marauder goalkeeper. After a four-year career with the Peacocks, senior Aaron Morgan played in his final home match for Upper Iowa. Over the course of his career, Morgan played in 51 games and scored 8 goals for the Peacocks.

The Peacocks will have two more opportunities to send their teammates out on a high note with a pair of road games this coming weekend. Upper Iowa will take on the Northeastern State RiverHawks on Friday for the second time this season before taking on Oklahoma Baptist Sunday afternoon for the final game of the season.
