Upper Iowa's second half comeback fell short as the University of Sioux Falls Cougars scored two late goals for a 3-1 victory. The loss marks the first time the Peacocks have been defeated by USF in program history. The Cougars improved to 5-10-2, 4-8-2 NSIC while Upper Iowa falls to 3-12-2, 2-10-2 NSIC.

Things got off to a bit of a shaky start for the Peacocks who were called for a penalty kick in just the 4th minute of action. Chessa Novotny took the kick for the Cougars and was initially turned away by Natalie Rudrud's diving save, but scored with a second-effort off the spill to give USF an early 1-0 lead.

In the first half, Katie Samuels and Joline Hellstroem each took a shot that carried just a little too far over the mark. UIU's most promising chance to tie the game before half came from Aimee Sies who took a free kick from the right side in the 33rd minute. The ball looked like it was going to squeeze just under the crossbar and into the back of the net but McKayla Philippi made a jumping effort to record her lone save of the half.

Samuels capitalized on yet another free kick opportunity for the Peacocks, tying the game up in the 55th minute with a hook shot over the head of the keeper. The goal marked her fifth score of the season and third in five games. USF nearly tied the game a minute later but a team save kept the score even at 1-1. Rudrud also came up with a big one-handed save on Aundria Vargas' free kick.

The game continued to be tied heading into the final ten minutes but USF broke open the scoring with back-to-back goals from Lindsey Power and Jackie Montes in the 80th and 87th minute, respectively, to put the game out of reach. The Cougars outshot the Peacocks 22-9 and held the advantage in corner kicks (6-3). Rudrud finished with 10 saves and Samuels took a team-high four shots, placing three on frame.

Upper Iowa returns home for the final match of the 2018 campaign on Sunday. The Peacocks will recognize the seniors at 11:40 a.m. before squaring off against the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs at noon.
