Peacocks and Huskies Settle for 1-1 Tie to give Upper Iowa Second Straight Draw

Upper Iowa and St. Cloud State University each traded a goal midway through the second period to result in a second straight 1-1 draw for the Peacocks.

Upper Iowa and St. Cloud State University each traded a goal midway through the second period to result in a second straight 1-1 draw for the Peacocks. The tie brings the all-time series record to 4-3-5 in favor of the Peacocks who have tied with the Huskies more than any other Northern Sun opponent.

The teams played a quiet first half that saw the Huskies edge the Peacocks 6-5 in shot attempts. Emily Hooper came off the bench to lead Upper Iowa (2-9-2, 1-7-2 NSIC) with a season-high two shots on frame. The teams took a scoreless tie into the half.

SCSU (5-4-4, 5-2-3 NSIC) came out of the break with eight unanswered shots - five saved by Natalie Rudrud and two blocked by a mighty Peacock defense. It only took one shot for the Peacocks to take the lead as Katie Samuels broke the scoreless tie in the 71st minute. Samuels took a set piece from 25 yards out over the head of the keeper to the far corner of the net to mark her third score of the season.

The Huskies didn't take long to even the score at 1-1 as Maria Kass beat a defender to score the equalizer in the 75th minute. Rudrud made a big effort to maintain the Peacock lead but Kass's ball was just high enough to skim over the goalkeeper's jumping stretch. Kass's score also marked her third of the season.

The Peacocks outshot the Huskies 3-2 to finish out the period but were unable to generate any opportunities in overtime. SCSU took four shots in extra time, but none that could get past Rudrud who finished the game with 12 saves.

Samuels, Hooper and Facienne Graham led the Peacocks with a pair of shots. Upper Iowa held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks, and was able to limit Hannah Marion, NSIC Offensive Player of the Week, to only two shots.

Upper Iowa welcomes the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs to Pattison Field on Sunday at noon. UMD (5-7-1, 4-5-1 NSIC) fell to Winona State University in the final minutes of Friday evening's contest.
