THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S SOCCER... The Upper Iowa women's soccer team opens up the 2017 Northern Sun Conference schedule on Thursday night in Winona, Minn. against the Winona State University Warriors. The Peacocks are looking for their first win of the season, after dropping a pair of 2-0 decisions to Washburn University and No. 14 Fort Hays State University last week. UIU will look to open the conference 1-0 for the second consecutive year, after topping then No. 13 WSU last season in Fayette.

UIU-WSU HISTORY... Upper Iowa is 3-8 all-time against Winona State, and is looking for its second consecutive win in the series. The Peacocks upset No. 13 WSU last season at Pattison Field in Fayette, 2-0, after scoring twice in the first half. Despite being outshot and trailing in corners earned, UIU held on in the second half for a shutout win. Prior to 2016, the Peacocks hadn't beaten the Warriors since 2013, the last time they started 1-0 in league play. UIU will look to duplicate what it did last season in the NSIC opener on Thursday night.
FIRST-HALF DEFENSE... UIU is being outshot 9-4 in the first half of games so far this season, but their defense is holding up in front of goalkeeper Caila Petrie. Upper Iowa has also faced eight first-half corner kicks, and have been stingy to not allow a goal. The Peacocks have pitched two straight shutouts in the first 45 minutes, and will look to build off that in the second halves of games.
