The Peacock women's soccer team was shutout in Bemidji, Minn. on Saturday afternoon against the Bemidji State Beavers. BSU outshot their guest 24-6, and scored two first-half goals en route to a 3-0 victory. Upper Iowa was limited to just two shots on goal, while the home team placed 16 on frame. BSU added a late goal as well, and with the loss, Upper Iowa drops to 0-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the Northern Sun Conference. BSU stays perfect on the year at 4-0, and is now 2-0 in league play.
The first half was controlled by the Beavers, as they held a 12-2 advantage in shots. BSU struck first in the 20th minute when Rachael Norton rolled off the defender and scored from the right side to give her team a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, Miranda Famestad took a pass from Raquel Thelen and scored to give BSU a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
In the second half, UIU managed four shot attempts, but again the home team controlled the ball with 12 more tallies in that column. Norton scored again in the 86th minute to put the game away for good, and finished the game with two scores.
Six different Peacocks tallied a shot attempt, and
Caila Petrie picked up 13 saves in goal. The save total is a season high for the senior goalkeeper.
Upper Iowa will have a quick turnaround, as they head west to Crookston, Minn. to battle the Golden Eagles of the University of Minnesota Crookston on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m.
