Hawks Finish Strong in Overtime to Top Peacocks

Quincy 64 - Upper Iowa 52. The Hawks outscored Upper Iowa 12-0 in overtime to round out the Subway Classic on Saturday.

The Peacocks dropped an overtime decision to close out their run at the Subway Classic in Quincy, Illinois. Upper Iowa had a big lead early in the game, but the Hawks of Quincy University rallied to force overtime and then shutout UIU in the extra time. The Hawks improved to 1-3 on the year with the 64-52 decision and dropped the Peacocks to 2-3 for the season.

UIU shot the ball extremely well in the first quarter knocking down 8 of their 15 shots, but only made 9 more field goals over the final three quarters and overtime. Quincy struggled shooting inside the arc, but nailed 15 three-pointers to make up for their lack of makes up close.

The Peacocks opened the game with a pair of three-pointers to take a 6-0 lead and continued their run for another four minutes to establish an 18-4 lead. By the end of the quarter, UIU's lead was 11 points with the road team ahead 26-15. The Hawks closed the quarter on a 5-0 run.

The run continued into the second quarter for the first seven minutes Quincy held Upper Iowa without a point. The run reached 13-0 and cut the gap to three points, 26-23. The teams went to the locker rooms with UIU clinging to a six-point lead, 32-26.

Three straight three-pointers by the Hawks in the third quarter gave the home team a two-point advantage, but the Peacocks answered with two of their own to get back on top 41-37. Quincy scored the final five points of the quarter to lead 42-41.

In the fourth quarter, the Peacocks and Hawks grabbed the lead from each other several times. A triple from Taylor Hickey with 46 seconds to play gave the home team a two-point lead, but Blair Klostermann knocked down a pair of free throws to tie the game at 52-52 and send the game to overtime.

Quincy made two three-pointers, a lay-up and four free throws in overtime while holding Upper Iowa scoreless to claim the 64-53.

Ashley Rosenstiel led the team in scoring with 15, while Blair Klostermann added 11, Natalie Dinius scored 10 and Bekka Pierson netted 9 points. On the boards, Haley Martin pulled in 10 rebounds and Rosenstiel grabbed 8 of them. The Peacocks handed out only 3 assists on their 17 made baskets.

Upper Iowa gets back on the hardwood next Saturday, Nov. 25 at home in Doorman Gym. The Peacocks will take on the Winona State University Warriors in both teams' NSIC openers.
