Upper Iowa pushed their current win streak to three matches with a three-set sweep in Bemidji, Minn. on Friday night. The Peacocks defeated the Beavers of Bemidji State University 25-13, 25-20 and 25-16 to post their 14th win of the season improving to 14-3 overall and 5-3 in the Northern Sun Conference.
The Peacock offense dominated the first set with 18 kills and only 4 attack errors, but slowed over the final two sets tallying 13 kills in set two and 17 in set three with 7 errors in each set. While the offense may have slowed after the first set, the defense was solid all night. UIU held their hosts to just 23 kills in the three sets and forced 15 errors as the Beavers hit .071 in the match.
Anna Winter and
Haley Weepie led the attack with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, while
Bethany Lovhaug and
Lauren Wombles each recorded 9 and
Haley Poula added 7. Winter hit .480 on the night with her 12 kills and no attack errors in her 25 attempts.
Malissa LeClaire handed out 38 assists and registered a team-high 15 digs.
Ashley Larson chipped in 14 digs, while Lovhaug, Wombles and Poula each had two blocks apiece.
Upper Iowa will head to the University of Minnesota Crookston on Saturday to close out their current four-match road trip. The Peacocks and Golden Eagles will line it up at 2 p.m. in Crookston, Minn.
