THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S SOCCER... Upper Iowa (3-9-1, 3-7-1 NSIC) will hit the road for their final full weekend away from Fayette as they head to northwest Minnesota and South Dakota for a pair of NSIC matchups. The Peacocks will take on the MSU Moorhead Dragons in Moorhead, Minn. on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. before heading to Aberdeen, S.D. to match up with the Northern State Wolves on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 12 p.m.
LAST WEEK... The Peacocks dropped a pair of games on Senior Weekend last week at home, including a 3-1 loss to Minot State and a 2-0 loss to UMary. Upper Iowa was only outshot by two, 35-33 on the weekend, but could not capitalize their shots into goals. Offensively, the 33 shots in the most for the Peacocks in a two-game span this season. THE SERIES... UIU holds a slim 5-4-3 advantage all-time against the Wolves after dropping a 2-0 decision last season in Fayette. Two years ago, the Peacocks held on for a 2-1 win at home. Upper Iowa has won the last seven matches against the Dragons, including a 2-0 win on Senior Day in Fayette last season. The Peacocks topped their guests 6-0 win at Pattison Field two seasons ago, and is 7-2 all-time against MSU Moorhead.
TEAM LEADERS... Jordyn Ostrowski leads the squad in scoring this season, as she has scored four goals on the year for a total of eight points. Fowler has three scores and an assist for a total of seven points, while
Corel Carmichael has registered a pair of goals this season.
Birgit Rijnders leads the team in shot attempts with 39, while Ostrowski follows with 27. Carmichael as 17 shot attempts, and right behind her is teammate
Sonia Fernandez with 15. Petrie has tallied 72 saves this season, which ranks fifth in the NSIC.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS...
vs. MSU MOORHEAD... The Dragons (1-9-3, 1-8-2 NSIC) went 0-2 on the road last week, and battled Concordia-St. Paul to double overtime before a late goal in final minutes lifted the Golden Bears to a win. MSUM then fell to No. 13 Minnesota State, 3-0 on Sunday to close out the weekend. Senior goalkeeper Corina Edgington is tied for fifth in NSIC at 5.71 saves per game this season.
vs. NORTHERN STATE... The Wolves (4-8-1, 3-7-1 NSIC) fell to Minnesota State 4-0 and Concordia St. Paul 1-0. NSU tallied six shots and two shots on goal on the weekend Stephany Estrada registered two shots and one shot on goal in the match-up against MSU. Tori Collesso recorded one shot and one shot on goal against the Mavericks, while Sydney Shintaffer and Nicole Griffith had one shot apiece against CSP. Justine Charles tallied 14 saves on the weekend bringing her season total to 68 saves.
