The Peacocks got on the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning. With one out, Jacob Stenberg doubled and then came around to score on a single by
Alex George. With two outs, George had made it over to third base and then crossed the plate when Luis Ravelo hit a single to give UIU a 2-0 lead.
The Huskies put runners on the corners with two outs in the fourth inning, but Adkins forced a flyout to end the threat.
UIU added a third run in the fifth inning with two outs. After two quick outs,
Mitch Moser and
Anthony Calton both singled and
Jacob Greco followed with an rbi-single to plate Moser and give the Peacocks a 3-0 lead.
St. Cloud State got a run in the sixth inning on an rbi-double by Reese Gregory, but Adkins got out of the inning with an infield fly without giving up any more runs. In the seventh inning, the Huskies had runners on the corners with one out after a pair of singles, but the sophomore right hander got a strikeout for the second out and then covered first in time on a grounder that pulled the first baseman away from the bag.
Adkins closed the game out in style recording an out on each of the final eight batters of the game for SCSU.
Greco and
Eric Cottrell both recorded a pair of hits in the second game.
